Callum Wilson blow as leaked England team suggests key Gareth Southgate decision for USA clash

Gareth Southgate is expected to name an unchanged England XI to face the USA this evening. The news comes as a pleasant surprise after Harry Kane was the subject of doubt earlier this week.

The England talisman took a hit in the 6-2 thrashing of Iran, and was sent for an ankle scan. The Tottenham forward took part in training this week, despite early concern that the Three Lions would be looking to progress to the next round, if results go their way.

The news comes as a blow to Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson, who was the first to replace Kane. The Magpies forward came off the bench to set up Jack Grealish for England’s sixth goal of the Group Two opener and has been in fine form for Eddie Howe’s side this season.

A win over Greg Berhalter’s side this evening and a draw between Iran and Wales this morning will ensure England progress to the knockout stages – at the top of the group. This will see the Three Lions face off against the second-placed team in Group A on December 4, 7pm ET.

Jordan Pickford is expected to keep his place between the sticks, with a back four consisting of Newcastle’s Kieran Trippier, John Stones, Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw. Jude Bellingham, Mason Mount and Declan Rice will make up the midfield trio after starting the tournament in impressive fashion.

Raheem Sterling and Bukayo Saka are expected to keep their places on either side of Kane.

The expected England XI: Pickford. Trippier, Stones, Maguire, Shaw; Rice, Mount Bellingham; Sterling, Ken, Saka.
