A mother has been arrested on suspicion of murdering her two young children and leaving their decomposing bodies on her bed for 15 days.
Eliara Paz Nardes, 31, is said to have gone about her daily activities, going to work and cleaning her house after the murders in Guarapuava, Brazil.
But police raised the alarm when she reportedly called a lawyer friend and confessed.Read:midterms elections Republicans scrape back control of US House
According to local reports, on August 27, the police found the bodies of Alice Nardes de Oliveira (9) and Joaquim Nardes Jardins (3) on the suspect’s bed.
Apparently blankets were placed over it to reduce the stench that developed after two weeks.
The mother allegedly told officers she was no longer able to provide for her children, both economically and emotionally.
The children had different fathers, one of whom had died years ago and the other was “never around.”
Nardes appeared to show no signs of remorse and had practiced a defense strategy over the dead, who appeared to be premeditated, police said.
Spokesperson Ana Hass said, “She… [the bodies] they looked as if they were sleeping in the bed, but they were already dead and in an advanced state of decomposition.Read:Brooke Burke, 51, flaunts her fabulous figure in an orange string bikini in Malibu
“She said the boy died of suffocation with a pillow and later the girl was strangled with a scarf, but we are waiting for a report to confirm this.
“The suspect allegedly committed the crimes against her own children 14, 15 days ago.
She claimed that she was very tired and alone and could no longer afford to raise her children, not only financially but emotionally.
“As a result, she said she intended to kill herself, but because she said the kids had no one to count on, she ended up killing them first.”
Nardes reportedly said she killed her children on the same day, but investigations revealed that Joaquim died on August 13, while Alice died on August 17.
“If proven, the girl would have stayed with her brother’s body for four days,” Ms Hass said.
“Everything points to it being premeditated. We cannot say for sure, but based on the dynamics of the facts it is possible to confirm this with some certainty.’
She continued: “She wrote letters during the time she was staying with the kids in the apartment…so she practiced a defense strategy, again apologized and came up with her justifications, mainly regarding the financial matter, reporting that the The boy’s father was never present, nor was his family there.Read:If Australia wants to mend relations with China, we must stop viewing it as the enemy | David Brophy
“The letters said that life was good when she had her daughter and that she could handle it even after her father’s death. But after she met the boy’s father, everything changed (expletive) because he is one (expletive).
“It’s quite interesting because she seems to hold a very strong grudge against the boy’s father.”
Nardes is charged with murder, hiding the bodies and procedural fraud.
She remains in a pre-trial detention center while the investigation continues.
