Barcelona set Aubameyang price tag as Thomas Tuchel gives Chelsea green light for signing

Barcelona striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Barcelona have reportedly given Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang an eye-opening price tag amid Chelsea in hopes of reuniting Thomas Tuchel with the striker.

Aubameyang played two seasons under Tuchel at Borussia Dortmund. He scored 79 goals in that period when BVB won the German Cup in 2017.

Chelsea are in talks with Barcelona about bringing Aubameyang back to the Premier League.

Ahead of the Blues’ clash against Tottenham on Sunday, Tuchel was again asked to work with the Gabon international.

He essentially gave Chelsea the green light to finalize the move by talking about his… ‘close relationship’ with Aubameyang.

“This is completely separate from anything that is happening now, but I really enjoyed working with Auba when I was at Dortmund,” Tuchel told a press conference.

“Some players remain your players because you were very, very close. And Auba is one of those players.

“There was always that close bond right away. They always remain your players in a way.”

It is clear that Tuchel would like to work with Aubameyang again. They have a great relationship and the manager knows how to use Aubameyang effectively.

Fabrizio Romano says he is seen as the ‘perfect striker’ for Tuchel’s system.

Chelsea teaches Pierre-Emerick to charge Aubameyang

While Aubameyang came to Barca on a free transfer from Arsenal in January, he won’t come cheaply to Stamford Bridge this summer.

According to journalist Toni Juanmarti, the Spanish giants value their player at £21.1 million (€25 million). They can demand this fee because Aubameyang has three years left on his contract at the Nou Camp.

The report claims Chelsea is not willing to meet this price. This means that negotiations will have to take place before an agreement can be reached.

Juanmarti ends his tweet by revealing that Aubameyang is open to a move as long as Tuchel’s side meets his contract requirements.

While Aubameyang is a top scorer with plenty of Prem experience, Chelsea shouldn’t have to pay £21.1million for him. He’s 33 years old now, which means they’ll only get two or three more years from him.

Barça are in a worrying financial situation and must sell assets to register new players. That is why they are demanding a hefty fee for an aging player in the form of Aubameyang.

But Chelsea are not allowed to play ball. Instead, they should put an opening bid of around £10 million on the table. This should force Barca to lower the price.

Chelsea need a new center forward after Romelu Lukaku was allowed to return to Inter on loan. And reports claim the deal could last for two seasons, rather than just one.

Aubameyang is being considered to fill this void due to his great relationship with Tuchel. However, there may be younger, hungrier strikers who are better options for the club.

In the meantime, Cesar Azpilicueta has spoken about why he chose to stay at Chelseaamid ties to Barca.
