Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka has won the England Player of the Year award for the first time. It comes after a great season for club and country.
England are set to play Italy in Milan tonight as they look to recover from a poor UEFA Nations League campaign so far. Saka is expected to be in the starting lineup after becoming one of Gareth Southgate’s key players.
The 21-year-old won the award for Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane and West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice, having put on an impressive display of his talent over the past year. He has already recovered his form this season as well, netting once and scoring four assists in Arsenal’s first seven Premier League games.Read:Tottenham v. He was awarded the prize by a group of young local players. The England star had no idea what it would give him, and in his grateful shock, smiled and said humbly, “Impossible. I honestly didn’t expect this, so yes, I’m proud. It’s really cool.”
The Saka FC team is currently top of the new season schedule and hopes that this is a good sign of things to come. For now, though, he will be proud of his country’s title for 2021/22 and understandably will focus on performing with the Three Lions against both Italy and Germany next week.
Southgate’s team is currently at the bottom of the standings in Group C in the first division and is in danger of relegation if they fail to deliver results in each of their last two matches.Read:Anthony Joshua desperate to avoid line in the sand with Usyk rematch | Boxing
