Alla Pugacheva: Russian pop star laments war in Ukraine | World

One of Russia’s biggest celebrities has criticized the Kremlin’s war in Ukraine in a move that is likely to increase pressure on President Putin.

Alla Pugacheva, a pop star who has been a household name in Russia for decades, spoke out after her husband, Maxim Galkin, was designated a “foreign agent” by the Kremlin. Galkin, a popular comedian, is an outspoken critic of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Pugacheva, who has been honored by the Kremlin on numerous occasions, said her husband was an honest man who simply wished Russia “prosperity, a peaceful life, freedom of speech and an end to the death of our boys for illusory goals that would give our country a outcast”.
