Celtic have reportedly reached a “verbal agreement” to make Canadian World Cup star Alistair Johnston their second signing of the winter.
The Hoops are working in the background on their January shopping plans and have already announced the signing of Japan defender Yuki Kobayashi on a long-term deal from J-League side Vissel Kobe. Right-back Johnston – who has also played at centre-back in his career – is the latest heavily linked with a move to Glasgow’s east end, and reports have suggested a deal is in the closing stages.
It is now claimed by trusted transfer expert Fabrizio Romano that the current 24-year-old Montreal club have an agreement with the Premier League champions and are now awaiting ‘final details’. And then his contract will be “discussed in order to complete and close the deal.” He is currently in Qatar with his country’s national team. His arrival came amid rumors that Celtic’s current international right-back Josip Juranović could be on his way out.
It was reported earlier this month that his future at Hobbs will be assessed once he returns from the major tournament with Croatia, and his clash with Johnston on Sunday in Group F.
