Everton vs Liverpool LIVE: Premier League latest score and updates after last-gasp James Tarkowski goal - chof 360 news

Everton battle Liverpool tonight in the final Merseyside derby ever to take place at Goodison Park. The two rivals were initially set to clash back in December but saw that game postponed at late notice due to Storm Darragh hitting the UK. Now, the Toffees have been rejuvenated under the stewardship of returning manager David Moyes and are looking to record what would be a statement win over their neighbours on what promises to be an emotional evening.

It will be fascinating to see how the Premier League leaders respond after being stunned by Championship strugglers Plymouth in the FA Cup on Sunday. The Reds - who have Trent Alexander-Arnold back in the squad - have reacted well to the few setbacks they’ve encountered in Arne Slot’s first season in charge but a game at Goodison under the lights is a potential banana skin despite the serene nature of their campaign thus far.

Always a game to look out for when the fixture dates are released, Everton’s imminent stadium move only adds to the narrative, as does the chance for Liverpool to move nine points clear of Arsenal in the title race as they finally contest their game in hand. Follow Everton vs Liverpool live below!

Slot is really not happy here as a foolish Mac Allister challenge on Harrison gives Everton another chance to float a free-kick into the box.

21:01 , George Flood

68 mins: GOAAA... NO!

No nonsense from Michael Oliver.

Another Everton free-kick wasted.

Everton 1-1 Liverpool

20:01 , George Flood

30 mins: Half an hour gone and this frenetic derby has settled down a bit now after those two goals in less than five minutes.

Both sides showing a distinct lack of quality at the moment.

Everton 1-1 Liverpool

19:59 , George Flood

26 mins: A totally wasted free-kick from Lindstrom after Bradley upends Harrison.

Robertson then picks up the first yellow card of this derby for a needless shove on Gueye near the touchline.

Slot on his haunches with his head in his hands after that.

Mindless booking.

Everton 1-1 Liverpool

19:55

23 mins: Plenty of treatment for Ndiaye, who gets up and tries to walk on it but no good.

He’s got his head in his hands and is now limping off with his head in his shirt.

Tough to watch as he’s clearly so emotional.

Leeds loanee Jack Harrison will replace him.

Everton 1-1 Liverpool

19:53 , George Flood

He’s been excellent of late - not a player David Moyes will want to be without.

Everton 1-1 Liverpool

19:42

11 mins: Goodison erupts as Everton take an early lead!

Beto catches Konate sleeping with a fine run and superb finish past Alisson after a quick free-kick from Branthwaite.

It was tight, but onside as the goal stands.

Liverpool were furious with the award of the free-kick, they felt there was no contact on Ndiaye.

Slot fuming.

Everton 0-0 Liverpool

19:40 , George Flood

9 mins: Michael Oliver plays a good advantage for Everton and a cross is harmlessly drilled into the side netting from the right.

An incredible atmosphere under the lights as Everton and Liverpool walk out to Z Cars for a Merseyside derby at Goodison for the final time.

“At least an empty trophy cabinet is easier to move,” reads one banner in the away end.

Plenty of ‘30’ balloons among the Liverpool fans as well, marking the number of years since their rivals last won any silverware.

So many flags, tifos and banners all across the stands for what is set to be a very emotional occasion at Goodison.

This has the feel of a very special night.

Will Everton’s players rise to the occasion?

Arne Slot urges Liverpool stars to keep cool heads

19:20 , George Flood

Arne Slot acknowledges that tonight is a special occasion for both clubs and has called on his Liverpool players to keep cool heads amid the inevitable derby chaos.

"Every time you play against a team that wants to fight with you - and that is almost every time we play against any opponent but maybe this one even more - you have to be ready for that," he said.

"You have to run just as much, be just as intense in tackles, not going across the line but being cool enough to play a good and firm tackle.

"That is where it starts and nine of 10 times after 10 or 15 minutes a game settles down a bit and then you can start to think even more about playing football.

"I have seen the game of last season, for example, and we were quite ready because after 10 minutes the referee had blown his whistle 11 times and 10 times it was in favour of Everton.

"The Liverpool players were ready to compete but every time they touched them it was a free-kick so I assume our players are ready for another battle for the simple reason they have been ready the whole season."

David Moyes: Everton need 'few years' to compete with Liverpool

19:06 , George Flood

David Moyes is evidently not expecting tonight’s Merseyside derby to be quite as “blood and thunder” as he became accustomed to during his first spell in charge at Everton.

"When it was Jamie Carragher and Steven Gerrard it was a case of who was going to kick who first really," he said this week.

"I don't think the games now are played in such a fashion where you can quite be like that. I think the refereeing is different nowadays.

"We were probably just getting ourselves back into being competitive more as a Premier League club.

"At that time I think the derbies were a bit more competitive. Liverpool were still always difficult to overcome and I think it was only in the last couple of years where we did finish above them in the Premier League.

"It took us years to prepare that and get a good enough side to be competing against Liverpool more regularly and probably at this moment we've got a few years to go before we're going to be ready to compete against Liverpool again."

Vitalii Mykolenko makes Everton return in only change

18:38

Vitalii Mykolenko returns to the starting lineup for Everton tonight after missing the FA Cup defeat by Bournemouth with a calf issue.

He replaces Ashley Young at left-back in David Moyes’ only change from the weekend.

New signing Carlos Alcaraz is on the bench again.

It’s the same side that started the 4-0 thrashing of Leicester earlier in February.

Trent Alexander-Arnold is on the bench for Liverpool tonight after returning to training in recent days.

It’s 10 changes from the FA Cup shock at Plymouth as all the big hitters return and only Luis Diaz retains his starting berth in attack.

Alisson is back in goal after a two-game rest in the cups, likewise Alexis Mac Allister in midfield.

There’s only one change from the last Premier League game at Bournemouth, with Conor Bradley filling in for Alexander-Arnold at right-back.

David Moyes eager to bridge gap between Everton and Liverpool

18:16

David Moyes admitted at his own pre-match press conference on Tuesday that the current gap between the Merseyside rivals was the biggest it had been for a long time.

However, the Scot is eager to try and bridge that huge gulf after signing a two-and-a-half year deal back at Goodison in January - starting with a positive result tonight.

"We've always been chasing Liverpool, probably no more so than now," he said.

"I think the gap between the two teams at the moment is probably as big as it's been for a long time.

"It's something I have to try and bridge and start bringing the two clubs closer together. I certainly need to bring my club closer to their club if I can.

"There's a gulf between what's going on (regarding transfer comparisons) and everybody's aware of the situation here and the difficulty.

"But Everton had a great result against Liverpool last year (winning 2-0 in April) so that's the way football works.

"I've actually seen a bit of unpredictability in the Premier League this year with some of the results, so we have to go out there and try to turn the result around and make sure that we're the winners."

Arne Slot: Liverpool must deal with Everton 'emotion' in final Goodison derby

18:04 , George Flood

Arne Slot has urged Liverpool to bounce back quickly from a momentous FA Cup upset by Championship strugglers Plymouth that he called “unacceptable”.

He has also called on his team to handle the pressure and emotions of the occasion with resurgent Everton no doubt eager to make it a final Goodison derby to remember.

"It should have an impact because if you are working at a club like this you should compete for every trophy. To lose against Plymouth is not acceptable," Slot said.

"Now we have to show a different side of us because it wasn't only the result but the performance was far from what Liverpool's standards are as well.

"It is probably going to be a fantastic atmosphere and that is never easy to play against because every single time they cross the halfway line or get a corner the fans will cheer for that and then you have to be mentally really strong as an away team to resist all that.

"You still have to be focused on what you have to do: defending the corner, defending the set-piece and when you have the ball be as calm as you can.

"It is not the first time for these players playing in an atmosphere like this. I hope they can focus on what they have to do but it is not only tactical, you also have to stand up those emotions.

"I noticed also in the Plymouth game the intensity of the tackles, how aggressive they were, was a quality of their players but it was also definitely because of the emotions in the stadium so we have to be up for that."

Everton and Liverpool level on Goodison derby wins

17:56

The calm before the storm at Goodison, which has hosted a total of 119 Merseyside derbies in the past.

One of English football’s most famous old grounds has stood since 1892 but is set to be demolished this summer as Everton move into their new 52,888-capacity stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock for the 2025/26 campaign.

An interesting wrinkle to tonight’s clash is the fact that both teams have exactly 41 wins each in this fixture at Goodison, so who will come out on top with one more victory in the all-time head to head?

It’s worth noting that nine of the last 12 derbies at Goodison have ended in draws.

David Moyes out to improve Merseyside derby record

17:45 , George Flood

David Moyes has certainly breathed fresh new life into Everton since returning to Goodison Park after 12 years away last month to succeed Sean Dyche.

However, it’s worth noting that his record in Merseyside derbies during his first 11-year tenure with the Toffees was not good.

In fact, he won just three of 22 matches against Liverpool in total.

Can he improve that number tonight and stop the Reds from soaring nine points clear at the summit?

Everton vs Liverpool score prediction

17:32 , George Flood

Despite their FA Cup blip, a win tonight for resurgent Everton would see them record a fourth consecutive Premier League victory to further banish any now distant relegation fears.

After a shock 2-0 win in this fixture back in April that ended Liverpool’s run of dominance at Goodison, they are looking for back-to-back league triumphs over their fiercest rivals for the first time since 1985, per Opta Sports.

However, Liverpool are unbeaten in 19 in the top-flight despite their much larger FA Cup mishap and will be favourites to extend that run as they look to go nine points clear in the title race with their all-important game in hand on the same day that Arsenal learned Kai Havertz is likely to miss the rest of the season with a hamstring injury suffered during a warm-weather training camp in Dubai.

This is the start of a very busy and crucial run of games for the Reds, which if they come through successfully should see them put one hand firmly on the trophy.

Liverpool are poised to have Trent Alexander-Arnold back in contention tonight.

The England right-back missed Sunday’s shock FA Cup loss at Plymouth and the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Tottenham with a knee issue sustained at Bournemouth at the start of the month.

However, he has joined in with training at Kirkby in recent days and a final call on his fitness was set to be made earlier today.

There will be no Joe Gomez though after he was forced off just 10 minutes into his return from hamstring trouble at Home Park.

Gomez is still being assessed and Liverpool boss Arne Slot has admitted his concern with the new issue affecting the same leg.

Everton are likely to have Ukrainian left-back Vitalii Mykolenko back in action tonight after he returned to training having missed Saturday’s 2-0 home FA Cup fourth round defeat to Bournemouth with a minor calf problem.

Tim Iroegbunam is also making his way back from injury, but David Moyes remains without a whole host of players, including the likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Dwight McNeil.

Lyon loanee Orel Mangala has been lost for the season with an anterior cruciate ligament injury, with the likes of Seamus Coleman, Nathan Patterson, Armando Broja and Youssef Chermiti also out.

There could be a first start in midfield for Flamengo loanee Carlos Alcaraz, who impressed off the bench on his debut over the weekend.

One final time at Goodison Park

14:30 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

It all comes down to tonight. For the final time ever, Goodison Park hosts a Merseyside derby...

Bold Liverpool prediction

12:30 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Victory for Liverpool over Everton in tonight’s Merseyside derby will all but wrap up the Premier League.

That is according to Paul Merson who believes a nine-point gap would be too much for his former club Arsenal to overcome in the title race.

“They’ve [Arsenal] got two [trophies left to win], one they could be out of by Wednesday night in my opinion. If Liverpool win at Everton, that’ll be nine points clear with 15-odd games left,” he said.

“They’d have to lose four of them, which I think would be impossible. To me, it comes down to Wednesday.”

Arne Slot calls for 'cool heads'

09:34 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Arne Slot has called for “cool heads” from his Liverpool players in the Merseyside derby against Everton.

“Yeah, cool head. But not cool legs. Every time you play against a team that wants to fight with you, and that's almost every time we play against any opponent, but maybe this one even more, you have to be ready for that,” he said.

“You have to run just as much, you have to be just as intense in tackles, not going across the line, but be cool enough to play a good and firm tackle.

“That's where it starts with, and then nine out of 10 times after 20 minutes the game settles down a bit and then you can start to think even more about playing football.

“Like I said, last season in the first 10 minutes there were 10 free-kicks in favour of Everton, and I think you know what they did with those, they brought them in [the box] every single time and it led in the end I think after about 10 or 15 minutes to their 1-0. So, yeah, cool head, but not cool legs.”

David Moyes has hailed the Everton fanbase ahead of Wednesday's final Merseyside derby at Goodison Park.

The Toffees have bee resurgent ever since Moyes replaced Sean Dyche and head into what promises to be an emotional evening relatively free of relegation pressure.

"They have been fantastic since I've come back,” said the Scot.

“Goodison has always had a really difficult, intimidating atmosphere and is a difficult place to play. I've had some great nights here as a manager and I hope I've got some more still to come. The supporters have always played a huge part. They've had a difficult period but hopefully they can see a little bit of light at the end of the tunnel."

David Moyes confirms potential Everton starter vs Liverpool

Tuesday 11 February 2025 15:10 , Jonathan Gorrie

David Moyes has confirmed Vitalii Mykolenko could return for the Toffees, although Nathan Patterson, Seamus Coleman and Dwight McNeil are all injured.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Armando Broja and Youssef Chermiti are also ruled out but there could be a start for January signing Charly Alcaraz.

"He's done enough by his performance to start the game,” he said. “Whether I do is another thing. I think sometimes when you bring someone in, you don't know how long it'll take for someone to settle.

"I have to say, he settled very well in the game. He's got Premier League experience, so he's not completely new to this.

"The decision will be made tomorrow on whether we start him or not."

Arne Slot prepared for 'fantastic' atmosphere at Goodison

Tuesday 11 February 2025 12:33 , George Flood

Arne Slot has urged his Liverpool players to be “mentally strong” to combat the effects of what is set to be a “fantastic atmosphere” in the last-ever Merseyside clash to be held at Goodison Park.

“I think it's an extra reason why the atmosphere will probably be even better than all the occasions before,” Slot said.

“I haven't been to one but people tell me at Goodison Park, as at Anfield, it's always a fantastic atmosphere. Home supporters are there to support their team and the away fans are mostly loud as well.

“It's probably going to be a fantastic atmosphere and that's never easy to play against because every single time they cross the halfway line, or they get a corner kick, or whatever happens, the fans will cheer for that.

“Then you have to be mentally really strong as an away team to resist all that, the complete atmosphere, and you still have to be focused on what you have to do; defending the corner kick, defending the set-piece.

“When you have the ball, be as calm as you can in this fantastic atmosphere. But it's not the first time for these players that they are playing in atmospheres like this.

“I hope they can focus on what they have to do, but it's not only tactical, you also have to stand up to those emotions because I've noticed also in the Plymouth game that the intensity of the tackles and how aggressive they were, that was a quality of their players but it was definitely also because of the emotions in the stadium, so we have to be up for that.

“I've seen the game of last season, for example, I think we were quite ready because after 10 minutes the referee blew his whistle 11 times and 10 times in favour of Everton!

“The Liverpool players were ready to compete, but every time they touched them it was a freekick. I assume our players are ready for another battle tomorrow for the simple reason that they have been ready for the whole season and many of them are experienced for this tie.”

Slot issues Alexander-Arnold and Gomez injury update

Tuesday 11 February 2025 11:15 , George Flood

Here is what Liverpool boss Arne Slot had to say on Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez at his pre-match press conference earlier this morning...

“Trent has done parts of training sessions with us. Not ‘sessions’, a session, yesterday,” he said.

“So, let’s see how he is today. He will train, hopefully, with us again and then we have to decide if we take him to the game, yes or no.

“Joe, it’s the same leg where he had the injury last time. We are still assessing that but he will definitely not be available tomorrow.”

Asked if it is a concern that Gomez’s issue is in the same leg as his previous hamstring injury, Slot said: “That’s mostly a concern.”

Everton vs Liverpool prediction

Tuesday 11 February 2025 10:31

Both of these sides will be keen to bounce back quickly after respective strong runs of form were spoiled in the FA Cup at the weekend - with one defeat obviously way more unexpected than the other.

Liverpool had been cruising across all competitions before a weakened side were stunned by second-tier basement club Plymouth on Sunday, having easily booked their place in the Champions League last 16 and swatted aside Tottenham to reach the Carabao Cup final.

They should secure a return to form here, particularly if Trent Alexander-Arnold is fit to return, and will want revenge having seen their strong record in the Merseyside derby ruined by a shock 2-0 loss at Goodison last April.

The chance to move nine points clear of Arsenal in the title race by winning their game in hand is simply too good to pass up, though Liverpool could face problems against an Everton team who had been reborn under David Moyes before their own cup exit at the hands of Bournemouth.

The inevitable emotion of the occasion could play in the Toffees’ favour, with this of course being the last derby to be held at Goodison.

We expect a tight affair for the most part, but Liverpool doing enough to secure the win.

Early Liverpool team news: Alexander-Arnold could return

Tuesday 11 February 2025 10:20 , George Flood

We have already heard from Arne Slot early this morning, with the Dutchman revealing that Trent Alexander-Arnold resumed partial team training with Liverpool on Monday following a knee injury suffered against Bournemouth at the start of the month that forced him to miss the subsequent games against Tottenham and Plymouth.

He is hoping he takes part again at Kirkby today, with a final decision on the England right-back’s fitness to be taken ahead of the game tomorrow.

However, fellow Liverpool defender Joe Gomez will definitely play no part in the Merseyside derby after being forced off just 10 minutes into his return from a hamstring injury against Plymouth on Sunday.

The 27-year-old is still being assessed but won’t be involved against Everton, with Slot admitting concern that the latest injury is to the same leg.

Early Everton team news: Mykolenko back in training

Tuesday 11 February 2025 10:14 , George Flood

We’ll be hearing a full update from David Moyes a little later on today, but Everton still have quite an extensive absentee list ahead of Liverpool’s short trip across Stanley Park.

They have lost Lyon loanee Orel Mangala for the rest of the season with an anterior cruciate ligament injury, with striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin also sidelined with a hamstring issue.

Everton are also currently without the likes of Dwight McNeil, Armando Broja, Seamus Coleman and Youssef Chermiti, though full-back Vitalii Mykolenko is now back in training after missing the FA Cup defeat by Bournemouth as a precaution.

Everton vs Liverpool live

Tuesday 11 February 2025 09:59 , George Flood

Hello and welcome to Standard Sport’s live coverage of Everton vs Liverpool in the Premier League.

We are gearing up to the final-ever Merseyside derby clash to be held at Goodison Park before the Toffees officially move into their new home at Bramley-Moore Dock in the summer.

This fixture was originally supposed to have taken place on December 7, only to be postponed on the day of the game due to the effects of Storm Darragh hitting the UK.

Now Liverpool will hope to bounce back from their huge FA Cup upset by Championship strugglers Plymouth that quickly took the shine off that emphatic Carabao Cup semi-final revenge mission against Tottenham by winning their game in hand and moving nine points clear of nearest challengers Arsenal in the title race.

But Arne Slot’s men could face a stern test against an Everton side who, prior to their own FA Cup fourth round exit at home to high-flying Bournemouth, had been resurgent under returning boss David Moyes, with a succession of eye-catching victories moving them nine points clear of the relegation zone.

With the game coming up at 7:30pm GMT on Wednesday night, stay tuned for all your match build-up including team news and much more!
