A girls' futsal team is set to make their debut on the European stage in June.

Bootham Girls' Futsal Club, York, will compete in the Montesilvano International Youth Futsal Tournament in Italy.

The under-17 squad will face teams from Australia, Italy, and Hungary, with more fixtures still to be announced.

If successful, they will progress to the knockout stages.

The squad consists of captain Heather Smith, vice-captain Hannah Block, and Lacey Backhouse, Erin Elliott, Molly Goodall, Eleanor Comrie, Abbie Drewer, Heidi Jackson, and Hattie Formhals.

Together, the squad have made more than 800 training and match appearances for Bootham.

Head coach Chris Collins said: "The whole club is so excited about this.

"The girls, parents, and coaches—we all just can’t wait.

"We’ve wanted to take the club abroad for futsal, but timing was always a challenge.

"This year, I made it a priority to make it happen.

"The tournament has fantastic reviews, and from what we’ve seen on YouTube, the competition will be tough.

"There’s no pressure on the team—we’re going to learn, experience different styles of play, and most importantly, enjoy every moment."

Mr Collins thanked Jasmine at North Riding County FA, and the schools and parents for allowing the girls to travel to the event.
