Liverpool could have Trent Alexander-Arnold back in action for the upcoming Merseyside derby against Everton, manager Arne Slot has confirmed.

The England right-back has missed the Reds’ last two matches with a knee injury that forced him off during the second half of the 2-0 Premier League win at Bournemouth on February 1.

However, Alexander-Arnold returned to partial training with Liverpool on Monday and Slot is hoping that a repeat showing on the eve of the game will see him back in contention for Wednesday’s rearranged trip to Goodison Park.

However, fellow defender Joe Gomez will play no part against Everton after suffering another setback during the early stages of Sunday’s shock FA Cup fifth round defeat by Championship strugglers Plymouth.

“Trent has done part of a training session with us, yesterday,” Slot told reporters at his pre-match press conference on Tuesday morning. “So, let’s see how he is today. He will train hopefully with us again and then we have to decide if we take him to the game, yes or no.

“And Joe is the same leg where he had the injury last time. We are still assessing that, but he will definitely not be available tomorrow. That’s mostly a concern.”
