Denis Law's funeral is being held at Manchester Cathedral on Tuesday afternoon.

The hearse and funeral procession will pass Old Trafford before reaching the cathedral, so Manchester United fans have been invited to bid a final farewell to a legendary club icon.

Law passed away aged 84 last month and tributes poured out for the King of the Stretford End, who was immortalised with two statues after making 404 appearances for United.

Law will be laid to rest on Tuesday and the funeral car will arrive at Old Trafford from Chester Road side at 1.10pm. The funeral procession will drive down Sir Matt Busby Way - bollards will be down and the procession will go across the forecourt - and briefly stop by the Holy Trinity statue.

The hearse and funeral procession is scheduled to leave for the cathedral at 1.20pm from the Hotel Football end, and hundreds of fans are expected to pay their respects to Law.

The Manchester Evening News will send a reporter to the cathedral and another to Old Trafford. There will be live coverage of the procession for those who can't make it in person.

Before United's game against Brighton at Old Trafford on January 19, a piper led the team out playing Flower of Scotland to pay tribute to Law. The teams were joined on the pitch by Paddy Crerand, Alex Stepney, Brian Kidd and Sir Alex Ferguson, and a minute's applause was held.

Last month, a statement released on behalf of the Law family said: "It is with a heavy heart that we tell you our father Denis Law has sadly passed away. He fought a tough battle but finally he is now at peace.

"We would like to thank everyone who contributed to his wellbeing and care, past and much more recently. We know how much people supported and loved him and that love was always appreciated and made the difference. Thank you."

A statement from United said: "Everyone at Manchester United is mourning the loss of Denis Law, the King of the Stretford End, who has passed away, aged 84.

"With 237 goals in 404 appearances, he will always be celebrated as one of the club’s greatest and most beloved players. The ultimate goalscorer, his flair, spirit and love for the game made him the hero of a generation. Our deepest condolences go out to Denis’s family and many friends. His memory will live on forever more."
