There's nothing like scented candles to make your home smell heavenly. For Salma Hayek, though, they can also bring a calming ambiance to a glam sesh before a big event. Someone as famously chic as the 58-year-old actress wouldn't be burning just anything to set the mood. Take one look at her recent Instagram posts and you can see that Salma's brand of choice is none other than Paris-based Diptyque, known for its high-quality scented candles, along with the chic votives they come in.
While we don't know the exact scent Salma uses, there's a good chance it's the Baies. Arguably Diptyque's most iconic offering, Baies is light and fruity, with a delightful mix of blackcurrant berries and roses. The brand describes it as "the herbarium of fruits" and "nature in all its glory."
One five-star Nordstrom reviewer wrote that the fragrance is "gorgeous, unusual fresh, green, rosy" and "perfect for any time of year when you want a luxurious pick-me-up."
If you know anything about Diptyque, you're well aware that the decades-old brand's candles not only smell amazing, they're cute too. A staple in homes from the rich and famous to regular folks, the brand has only gotten more popular — just take a look at the many, many TikToks with the hashtag #diptyquecandles. Shoppers even keep the votives after burning them to store things like Q-tips, jewelry, makeup brushes — whatever your heart desires.
Look, if we were getting glam every day, we'd also want to light up a candle that smells divine and looks it too. However, we'll settle for transforming our house into a fresh-smelling haven. While, yes, Diptyque candles are pricey, both shoppers (and chof360 writers and editors) swear that they're worth it — and not just because you can pretend that you're Salma Hayek.
"Worth the splurge," writes one Nordstrom shopper about Baies. "This candle is relaxing; it fills the space with a soothing scent that lingers without being overwhelming."
"I love this candle," explained a second five-star reviewer. "It smells divine (fresh and a little sweet), lasts ages and the glass can be used after (good size for cotton balls). Originally bought because I spied it in Carrie Bradshaw’s apartment. I like that they have kept the timeless design."
"I take it with me for holidays and even work trips," explained a Baies fan. "Smells delicious, very soothing when having a bath. It lasts quite a while even though it's small. It's perfect for traveling. The large size is great for quiet evenings listening to music."
Another Nordstrom shopper wrote: "I purchased a number of these scented candles as work Christmas gifts and all were very well received. The scent is gorgeous and the containers look luxe." The same reviewer added: "Love this brand, which is my go-to when I need a treat."
While Diptyque burners have been fans of the brand and Baies for, well, ever, a few do note that a major downside is the price, with one finding that it burns "quite fast" for the cost. Still, they called it "divine" and one of the "best-smelling candles" they've ever used.
Meanwhile, one four-star reviewer wrote that it's "pleasant" but that there are "definitely stronger smelling ones in the Diptyqe line." So, if you're looking for something a bit stronger than Baies, check out another popular scent: Roses.
Created as a "hymn to the rose and the month of May," the brand describes the Roses candle as "a rose brush brimming with flowers" and "petals still beaded with dew." It's basically a fresh, spring bouquet. And with spring right around the corner, what better time is there than to burn this flowery formula?
"Absolutely love this candle," raved a Nordstrom customer. "It smells natural rather than artificial so no headaches from the scent. Strong-smelling. If left in a room for a while you come back to the room smelling of the candle."
