SECOND placed Moseley Oak made light work of Regional 2 West basement side Hereford and ran out 31-0 victors.

The hosts benefitted from Hereford’s poor lineout performance and unforced errors to take a 14-point lead into the second half.

When a heavy injury toll handicapped the Wyesiders’ efforts to reduce the deficit, Moseley Oak added three further tries to run out clear victors.

“A tough away assignment at Moseley Oak,” said head coach Scott Sturdy.

“Moseley Oak played extremely well throughout the game. They are a strong, young and fit side who carried the ball well, in and around the breakdown and have the skill set to move the ball wide when needed.

“Hereford did have opportunities in the first half, but inaccuracy at the lineout and unforced errors with ball in hand led to those opportunities going astray.

“It was still game on at 14-0 with 20 minutes to go, but with injuries starting to mount up, some brave performances were unable to prevent Moseley Oak adding three more tries.”

“We’re very grateful that there’s a rest week coming up because it’s much needed for some of the players.

“We know our next game against top of the league, Newent at home will be extremely tough.

“Our 1870s, won 17-7 at home against Pershore. Great for those guys to have a full squad out as well.”

The young, but well drilled Moseley Oak side, opened up a first half lead of 14 points with two tries, both converted.

Hereford held their own in general play, but were frustrated by unforced errors. The forwards worked hard with Malachi Stuffins, Alex Thomson, Ollie Hutcheson and Rhys Roberts all giving Hereford an outlet.

The half-time score of 14 – 0 remained until mid-way through the second period.

The Wyesiders continued to compete, with Tom Ewins in the back line and Rhys Proctor making some nice interventions from the wing.

Hereford had to unload the bench early, due to the number of injuries and ended up playing with 14 men for the last 10 minutes.

Meanwhile, Josh Wright played while carrying an injury for most of the second half.

Moseley Oak added three tries in the second half, improving one, taking the final score to 31-0.

Try scorers for the 1870s 17-7 home win against Pershore were Luke Yarranton and Ryan Cooper, conversions Ben Wood and Sam Roberts and penalty Sam Roberts.

Hereford host Newent at Wyeside on February 15 and the 1870s travel to Worcester II.
