An energy firm has teamed up with a Caerphilly Olympic champion to support Welsh communities.

Bute Energy has announced a partnership with Olympic gold medallist and world champion boxer, Lauren Price.

The unified welterweight world champion, who hails from Ystrad Mynach, will represent Bute Energy on her leisure kit as she prepares to face Natasha Jonas at the Royal Albert Hall on March 7.

She said: "I know how important our tight-knit communities are in Wales, but I also know how some communities are less well-off and need that extra bit of support.

"That’s why I’m proud to announce that this year, I’ll be powered by Bute Energy."

Twyn Hywel Energy Park, Bute's first onshore wind park, will provide clean energy to the region and is scheduled to be operational by 2027.

It was approved by the Welsh Government in late 2024.

Catryn Newton, Bute Energy's director of community investment and communications, said: "We are thrilled to welcome Lauren Price to the Bute Energy family.

"Lauren’s strength, determination, and commitment to her local community make her the perfect partner for us.

"At Bute Energy, we are not just focused on producing green energy, but also on making a positive difference in the lives of people in the communities closest to our projects."

The project will invest more than £30 million into the community over its 45-year lifespan through its Community Benefit Fund.

This fund will offer up to £693,000 each year to support initiatives including youth projects, community improvements, and local heritage preservation.
