ADIL AOUCHICHE has completed a season-long loan move from Sunderland to Portsmouth.
Aouchiche's switch to Fratton Park had looked to be in trouble earlier today when the FA's work permit rules looked like preventing the French midfielder from joining the Pompey squad.
However, a day of discussions has resulted in a solution being found that allows Aouchiche to sign for Portsmouth for the remainder of the campaign.
Sunderland sporting director Kristjaan Speakman said: "Adil has worked hard and played his part when called upon, and been a good team-mate, but competition within our squad is extremely high and his opportunities have been limited as a result.
"Naturally, he would like to play more regularly, and we believe this opportunity will enable him to do that in a competitive environment that will support his development. We wish him well and look forward to reviewing his progress at the end of the campaign.”
Aouchiche joined Sunderland in September 2024, and has made 38 senior appearances in all competitions, scoring two goals.
He has made ten league appearances for the Black Cats this term, and will now attempt to help Portsmouth secure Championship survival in the final three months of the season.
Pompey boss John Mousinho said: "We’re delighted to welcome Adil to Fratton Park for the remainder of the campaign.
“We already saw first-hand just how dangerous he can be when we played Sunderland a few weeks ago.
“He’s an incredibly talented young player who will complement the attacking options we already have in the squad.”
