Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer is a very familiar face on television, having earned a solid reputation as a punditafter hanging up his boots from football.

His analysis on BBC's Match of the Day and his seamless transition into the commentary box have earned him praise over the years. On Sunday, Shearer will return to our screens to provide commentary on the FA Cup tie between Manchester United and Fulham at Old Trafford (4.30pm).

Despite his regular appearances on the screen, many are unaware of his family life away from the sport. Here, MEN Sport has taken an in-depth look at the life Shearer has built away from football.

Net worth

The Newcastle icon made a transfer record when he joined the club for £15million from Blackburn Rovers in 1996, after winning the league with his former club and establishing himself at Southampton. His media career with the BBC, Al-Jazeera, and now Amazon—along with his podcast The Rest is Football, co-hosted with Gary Lineker and Micah Richards — has ensured he remains one of the most recognisable faces in football.

His salary alone amounts to a reported £380,000. However, Shearer's earning from the BBC took a notable hit this year following a £65,000 reduction from his 2022/23 salary of £445,000, according to Wales Online.

The 54-year-old's estimated net worth is around £40m, claims Goal.

Wife

The former footballer is married to Lainya, a long-term partner whom he met during his playing days at Southampton. The couple, who lived with her parents on the south coast during his second year at the club, tied the knot in 1991 and have three children together.

During an episode of the Rest is Football, he recalled: "She was eight months pregnant, looked at me in the car, and said: 'What the f*** have you done?!'"

Despite the attention often focussed on her husband, Lainya prefers to stay out of the spotlight. However, she was recently mentioned in an interview by Ruud Gullit, the former Chelsea star.

Gullit shared with the Sun: "The funny thing is that during the World Cup in Brazil in 2014, we were working together for ITV. We ended up at a party and we were just laughing together and drinking. Alan's wife came over and said, 'I cannot believe it... in our house, you were the No.1 guy we hated and now you two are laughing and joking with each other'.

"We'd met a lot of times in TV studios but that night we really got on so well. Sometimes you cannot agree but you can still respect one another."

Children

Shearer has three children who are social media influencers: his son Will, 24, and daughters Chloe, 31, and Hollie, 29. Each has a notable social media following, with Will at 16,000, Chloe at 18,000, and Hollie boasting an impressive 81,000.

Hollie's popularity on social media is through her signing and music releases. But she also has a strong presence on TikTok, amassing 335,000 followers. Chloe on the other hand, works in talent management and recently worked with Soccer Aid.

Both of Shearer's daughters are romantically involved with well-known sportsmen. Hollie is currently seeing England rugby player Joe Marchant, the 28-year-old who currently plays for Stade Francais.

Previously speaking about his Hollie's shift in sports allegiance towards rugby over football, Shearer said: "I'm just glad it's not a footballer."

Chloe meanwhile, is in a relationship with scrum-half Micky Young. He has had two stints with Newcastle Falcons after departing Gloucester last year.
