Wigan Athletic boss Shaun Maloney has spoken briefly of the off-field crisis facing the club, hoping they find 'the right owner for them.'

The former Scotland international has been in charge at the Brick Community Stadium since 2022 and faced Noel Hunt on the day which the Latics were relegated to League One in Berkshire, less than a week before the Royals followed.

Having been through their own issues, Wigan saved by a local businessman in administration less than three years ago, they are a club and fanbase who know what the Royals are currently facing with Dai Yongge at the helm.

However, there is a bit more positivity in Reading as Robert Platek moves into exclusive negotiations over a quick takeover, with the club now having been 'up for sale' for over 500 days.

Heading up to Wigan five matches unbeaten, the Royals sit just three points outside the play-offs with 14 matches remaining.

"I don’t know too much about that club," Maloney admitted. "I think the last time we played them they thought that takeover had gone through, or a different one, so for their fans sake and staff fingers crossed it becomes a bit more stable.

"I don’t know loads about them, but I know they have been through a bad time, and they haven’t had that takeover. For the fans, players and staff, hopefully they get the right owner for them."

Reading beat Wigan 2-0 in August as prospective buyer Rob Couhig watched from the stands, meeting supporters and hoping to complete a deal within days.

However, Mr Yongge returned Mr Couhig's loans and is now locked in a legal dispute with the former Wycombe Wanderers owner.
