Mike Dodds says Wycombe Wanderers’ top scorer Richard Kone is fully fit and in contention to start their top-of-the-table clash with Birmingham City.

Ivorian striker Kone is tied at the top of the League One scoring charts with Jay Stansfield, with the pair on 16 goals apiece for the season.

Both Kone and Stansfield have been nursing injuries in recent weeks but Wycombe have been boosted by the return of their talisman.

“He had a full week last week, and he has had a full week this week,” Wycombe manager Dodds said of Kone’s fitness. “I love working with Richard.

“He has a huge amount of ability but I think it’s unfair to dismiss Dan Udoh, who has scored in two of the previous games leading up to Saturday.

“He’s in really good form and he has trained well. We’re getting back to a point where we are nearly at a fully fit squad which will give me even more headaches in terms of selection – this is a positive thing though.”

Dodds has only been in situ at Adams Park for a month having succeeded Matt Bloomfield in the hot-seat following his move to Luton Town.

The 38-year-old made his name working in Blues’ academy before leaving his position as academy manager to join Sunderland in 2021.

Unsurprisingly, Dodds is very complimentary about Chris Davies’ side who go into this weekend’s match with a nine-point lead over Wycombe – with a game in hand.

Dodds added: “They’ve got some unbelievable players at this level. A lot of their players would probably get in Championship teams, let alone League One teams. We’re going to have to do all the things we’ve done well in the last three or four games and make sure we concentrate.”
