Former Tottenham captain Hugo Lloris has defended Daniel Levy, saying the embattled chairman deserves credit for growing Spurs into one of the "best clubs in the world".
Around two thousand Spurs fans joined a protest against Levy and the club's owners ENIC ahead of the recent home game against Manchester United, while there have been calls during matches for the 63-year-old to stand down.
Ange Postecoglou's side are experiencing a challenging season and are 13th in the table going into Wednesday's visit of Manchester City, having been eliminated from both domestic cups in the space of four days before the win over United.
Lloris, who spent 12 years at Spurs before joining Los Angeles FC in January 2024, has previously criticised Levy, writing in his recent autobiography that the chairman's behaviour around the 2019 Champions League Final defeat left him wondering: "Does the club really want to win?"
But speaking to reporters in LA, Lloris backed Levy, insisting that one trophy in 24 years as chairman does not tell the whole story of his tenure.
"That's not the first time [fans have protested], obviously," Lloris said. "But I always used to repeat, Daniel has my support. I know from inside all the really good things he did for the club. He took the club at one level and brought it to an amazing [new] level.
"Today Tottenham belongs to the best clubs in the world.
"Obviously when you have difficulties in your season and you don't have the results you expected, there is always a guilty [one].
"I know and we all know the reputation of Spurs, lacking trophies, but at the same time you have to realise that in 20 years the club become something huge in the football world. Not only on the pitch but off the pitch with a strong image around the world.
"And I know they are working, they do all their best to get that success missed by the club. For me, Daniel has been really huge for the club and he deserves a lot of credit about that.
"Again, you cannot win trophies with one person, it's about picking the right people and creating the environment that is going to help the team to success."
