Real Betis are reportedly set to appeal the decision to send off Antony during their 2-1 victory over Getafe on Sunday evening.

Having already contributed an assist for his side on the night, the Brazilian was shown a straight red card for a lunging challenge on Juan Iglesias. In real time, the decision appeared to be correct as the winger came from some distance to clatter into the back of his opponent.

However, replays would show that Antony did pull out of the challenge to minimise contact on the opponent. The sending off in second half stoppage time did not alter the result but was a big blow for the Seville club.

His dismissal meant the winger would be banned for next Saturday's clash with Real Madrid and understandably, considering his form, that would be terrible news for Real Betis. According to Marca, Antony's La Liga club will be pulling out all the stops to avoid a suspension for their forward, including appealing the dismissal.

It is thought that Real Betis chiefs have analysed the incident and feel the challenge did not warrant a red card. If it was to be rescinded, it would mean that Antony would continue his record of having never been shown a straight red card in his professional career.

Antony left United during the January transfer window when Ruben Amorim made the decision to allow the Brazilian a fresh start after a poor spell at Old Trafford. Real Betis hold no option to buy the forward in the summer transfer window and the winger is expected, at this stage, to return to the first-team picture at United at the end of the season.
