Original story: While developer Rockstar has moved to ensure that this weekend’s unprecedented GTA 6 leak will not affect game development, you can rest assured that the relevant authorities will be hot on the issue. In a statement about its own issues, Uber said: “We believe this attacker or attackers belong to a hacking group called $Lapsus, which has been increasingly active over the past year or so. This group typically uses similar technologies to target tech companies, and in 2022 alone it was breached Microsoft, Cisco, Samsung, Nvidia and Okta, among others. There were also reports over the weekend that this same actor had hacked video game maker Rockstar Games. We are in close coordination with the FBI and the US Department of Justice on this matter and will continue to support their efforts.”

It’s worth noting that Uber appears to be tying the dots here, and since this is a criminal investigation, it’s unlikely we’ll get any firm word on the culprits for some time. However, several members of Lapsus$ were arrested in the UK recently in March 2022, as a notorious 16-year-old allegedly amassed a fortune of $14 million through hacking.
